Boost Your Metabolism

Boost your metabolism easily by using these methods. The higher your metabolism, the faster your body burns fat and calories.

  • Eat 0-5.  Which means eat only when you are hungry and stop eating when you've had enough food, before you feel full.
  • Reduce percentage body fat and increase muscle mass by doing strength-building exercises
  • Get plenty of sleep.  Burning the candle at both ends can make you gain weight.
  • Eat proteins, carbohydrates, and fats at each meal. Eat about 15 to 20 grams of animal protein (more for men) for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. That's about 3 ounces per meal.
  • Avoid drinking caffeine by itself without food.  This includes sodas, coffee, and tea.
  • Eat starches as if they were condiments, that is have a little bit. Starches include  wheat, bread, pasta, corn, white potatoes, rice, crackers, muffins, cookies, bagels, and pastries.  Do not center a meal around starches. Remember that "white and fluffy makes you puffy."
  • Think and affirm that you are thin. Use affirmations and visualizations.
  • Do the Tibetan exercises daily. To learn about the Tibetan exercises, click here.
  • Do cardio, strength, and flexibility exercises regularly, preferably do one hour of exercise a day.
  • Avoid continually running on adrenaline. Take time to slow down and relax daily. Stress and the stress hormone cortisol can make you fat.
  • Reduce long-term stress as much as you can..
  • Spend at least 20 minutes in the sunshine every day. If it's a cloudy day, use a Light Box, for more info, go to file downloads.
  • Steroid-type medications can cause weight gain. If you 're taking these,  discuss other options with your health care practitioner.
  • Alcohol is a food so factor it into your overall food consumption.
  • Make sure that your digestion, assimilation and elimination function properly. Consider using digestive enzymes at meals.
  • Avoid skipping meals, that is, not eating when you are hungry.
  • Do not sip on sweet tasting liquids throughout the day.  This includes juices, sodas, and diet sodas .
  • Get adequate oxygen intake everyday with exercise. Breathe fully.
  • Avoid eating low-fat foods as they are usually high in carbohydrates and can cause insulin overproduction.
  • Take 1-2 TB. fish oil daily. Or take 2-5 capsules. Try Carlson's brand -- it tastes great.
  • Eat 5 to 10 servings vegetables and fruits daily.
  • Avoid eating as a total vegetarian as it's hard to get enough high-quality complete protein and is usually high in starch.
